Astro’s Playroom Gets Surprise Update Ahead Of Astro Bot’s Release

The PS Move controller later made a comeback as the hand tracking method for the PlayStation VR. Early models featured RCA jacks for video and audio output and a Parallel I/O port, but these were all removed by the 1999 models. Trophies are another kind of collectible that are available in every PlayStation 5 game (as well as the PS4, PS3 and PSVita). They aren’t tracked internally in the game, but are instead tracked externally by the system itself. However, I have been very disappointed in their increasingly silly take on PSSR. It takes only a few moments for Astro’s Playroom to show why you’ll want to play with a DualSense, and over the course of its run time it keeps giving you new reasons. In ASTRO’S PLAYROOM, players guide Astro through a series of lands, all of which tout the selling points of the PlayStation 5, including its SSD hard drive and new processor. This makes for a themed series of levels (four levels per land) that showcase the DualSense controller, primarily its rumble feature. However, as you venture through PlayStation’s history, there are special bots for Astro to rescue. These were added just before the launch of Astro Bot, and each section of the game has its special bot to find and collect in preparation for the next game in the Astro Bot world. For a free game that comes with the PlayStation 5, one largely designed just to showcase all the bells and whistles of Sony’s next-gen DualSense controller, Astro’s Playroom is surprisingly fun. It’s not just a great toybox to experience the DualSense’s haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, microphone, and more, it also delivers the best proof-of-concept pack-in I’ve played since Wii Sports. This is a truly joyous homage to PlayStation history, as well as an experimental platformer I can only hope to see turned into a larger experience during the PS5’s lifetime.

Additionally, players can transform into a robot frog, allowing them to jump into action. Astro’s Playroom also includes collectibles that represent the history of PlayStation, spanning from the PS1 era to the PS5 era. These collectibles add an extra layer of depth and nostalgia to the game.
